In this story, Commissaire Marion and her team leave Lyon for Bordeaux and points south (where they nevertheless seem to have jurisdiction) to investigate a highly complex set of events (mostly gruesome murders) related to bullfighting. The bullfighting ambience, which the author seems fascinated with, gives the tale an unusual flavour (particularly for a French thriller). Marion's interaction with her team, and her (usual) predilection for unsuitable men are familiar ground though. The story is a very complicated one, involving long-buried secrets, bewildering confusions of identity, and an ending where our heroine is in mortal peril. Not the best of the Thiery novels, in my view, but ok.
