I'll make it short. It may be cheap but the translation isn't very good. Buy the Penguin version!

Wrong, this edition uses the Maude translation which is by far the best. I assume you understand Russian otherwise how would you know whether this is a good translation or not.

Fair play. However, in defence, I can't speak Russian and I recently acquired a Wordsworth edition of Dead Souls which read like a Jack and Jane book. I'm pretty sure Gogol didn't use crayons to write his prose.
