Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)I remember going to see my first Python film in 1983 which was the Meaning of Life, I remember coming out of the picture house (as they were then called) thinking WHAT WAS THAT!!!!!!, I'm not sure If I enjoyed it, I didn't follow it and thought they were all bonkers!
I hadn't seen all of the Holy Grail but had seen the bit where Arthur battles the black Knight (Cleese) who, despite having had all his limbs being chopped off, continues to try fighting, which I thought hilarious. I had not seen the Life of Brian (was only 15 when it was released) and didn't watch it for many years after as I had never watched much about the Pythons after my Meaning of life film, I probably watched it on Video. It one of the best silly films I have ever watched.
I don't recall the upset when it was released but can can imagine it caused a bit of a stink, I always remember watching Dave Allen as a young one thinking any minute now he is going to be struck by lightning, I guess the church were now happy bunnies.
I thought this DVD would allow me to visit the bit I missed and yes it was enjoyable and the characters who played the Pythons were very much like who they were portraying. There were bits that made me laugh but probably to many bits that made me yawn, It's not a film I would watch again, unlike the Life of Brian which I've watched a number of times.
