I really enjoyed this account of trying to live an eighteenth century life for a year. Very hard work in spite of the help Fiona Houston had from friends, and the knowledge of an escape to the present when absolutely required. Amazingly hard to make all clothes, collect water, wood for fuel, cook with the differently available ingredients, cope with the cold in the cottage, and the loneliness. An inspiring and enjoyable book. I was totally sympathetic to the need to fulfill family commitments even though that broke the pledge of a year in the 18th century.
