This review is from: John Calvin, a pilgrims life (Paperback)
Selderhuis has provided a competent biography of Calvin's life with a fair degree of insight and even splashes of humour. If I had to criticise it, I'd say that there are places where the translation out of Dutch is rather clumsily done and leads to some awkward sounding sentences, but these are only occasional and certainly don't make it unreadable at any stage.
Selderhuis does have the misfortune of publishing at about the same time as Bruce Gordon's book on Calvin, which in my opinion completely outshines this one, which in a way is a shame, because it is quite good. If you're really interested in Calvin, both will teach you things the other won't, but if not, I'd go for Gordon.
