1.0 out of 5 stars Super Ego but little real content of interest, 16 Aug 2010
This review is from: Superfan!: The Amazing Life of Morris Keston (Hardcover)
Nobody loves Morris Keston as much as Morris Keston. This scuttle through the years Keston was able to befriend Spurs players and other figures from the sporting and showbiz worlds could have been so much more than the aggrandising account of how Morris was such a wonderful, wonderful man. Don't take my word for it - take Morris' own reproduced quotes from players - all lauding MK to the skies, natch - at the beginning of each tedious chapter.

A book that no Spurs or showbiz fan need add to their library, unfortunately.

Nick Hawkins says:
The "reproduced quotes" are genuine quotes obtained directly from people who have held Morris in the highest regard for many, many years. We could have filled three-times the number of quotes actually used from his friends wishing to thank Morris personally in print for his generosity and kindness over the years. Ask the likes of Terry Venables, Graeme Souness, Sir Geoff Hurst and Jimmy Greaves what they think about Morris Keston. They'll tell you that he is the most genuine man you could wish to meet! As for 'Super Ego', well Morris agrees that he's loved the glitz and the glamour that's come with befriending famous people and stepping out with them, but who wouldn't?

As for "little real content of interest", well, having written over 50 features of historical-type content for Tottenham Hotspur FC publications over the years, I certainly know my history with regard to the history of the club and its players. 'Superfan' is full of untold stories from Morris's heyday with the players - the days when players were more accessible. A fan that almost became Spurs chairman in 1991? A fan that got arrested along with half the Spurs team? Bobby Moore almost signed for Spurs! I won't reveal anymore here, but suffice to say there is plenty of "real content" here to fascinate Spurs fans young and old.
