Kristofer, a man who has a past with smuggling, is drawn back into the web of crime in order to make a better life for himself and his family. Working in a dead end job and with plenty of financial worries, he reluctantly ends up back in the game thanks to his "great friend" Steingrimur. Steingrimur leads a fairly comfortable life and is financially secure in comparison with Kristofer, who in the past took the fall and ended up doing time. The scenario is complecated even further by the idiotic brother (Arnor) of Kristopher's partner, Iris. Iris also happenes to be an old flame of Steingrimur. Clear as mud and all rather cosy. So Kristofer gets back into the swing of his past life and is aided and abetted by his old chums who still work on the waves. Whilst he is away trying to secure a better future, an elaborate web of lies and betrayal is beginning to unravel. Its a great film, fine performances from all the lead characters and the odd bit of black humour thrown in too. After watching this I can only wonder what kind of a hatchet job hollywood will have done with the remake.
