Trek for Trek fans, by Trek fans,
This review is from: Strange New Worlds: Bk. 2 (Star Trek) (Paperback)
I am a HUGE fan of the Star Trek Strange New Worlds Series, the books contain new Trek fiction penned by fans from the across the while franchise (the later editions include Enterprise). The concept of the book was a simple one, Star Trek fans who are NOT professional writers send in their stories and if the publisher likes them they can be included in the book. There are obviously some rules, including the irritating disqualification for anyone not a US citizen ( hello! there are Trek fans in the rest of the world)
This edition is the second in the series and is a great follow up from the first. The stories are sharp and include characters which are long established as well as the ones who we barely knew. I must confess to those being my favourites. A recurring theme in ALL the volumes seems to be the episode The City on the Edge of Forever, the one in which Joan Collins dies to the unTrekky.
There are 10 of these books so far and they have never disappointed me, the same cannot be said for other Star Trek Books. As I have read most of the other volumes in the sereis I have noticed that a few names re-appear. Several of them have even gone on to publish stand-alone books. Including Dayton Ward. And Trekdom has been better for it. A great addition to a Trek library.
