Disappointingly poor picture and sound quality,
This review is from: Glass: Satyagraha [DVD] (DVD)
Oh dear, how disappointing. As a Philip Glass fan I cannot express my deep unhappiness upon viewing this DVD release.
Satyagraha is a beautiful work, and I am sure the production filmed for this release was truly wondrous to behold. How sad then that none of the beauty, joy and wonder comes across in this disc. The Picture quality is truly awful, looking like it was filmed on a cheap video camera, and is so blurry as to make many of the superb stage constructs difficult to make out. The sound is poor, almost making you feel like the production was actually recorded live from the back of the auditorium.
DVD is meant to herald the advent of quality sound and picture, and is not simply a means to sell poor quality transfers of this nature on to an unsuspecting public.
Surely recordings of performances are meant to give those of us who had no chance to see them, some idea, some feeling of what the performance had been like. This disc fails to do that, utterly.
