Eat, drink and be merry!,
This review is from: Friends at My Table: A year of eating, drinking and making merry (Hardcover)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
On the cover it says "A year of eating, drinking and making merry" and this accurately sums up what this book is about. It is Alice Hart's table and it is her year that this book describes so it is personal and idiosyncratic.
The book is divided into the four seasons and each season has three occasions described. For example Summer tells about A Laid-back Country Wedding, Glamping (which I have discovered means glamorous camping) and A Beach-cricket Barbecue. We don't just get recipes suitable for these occasions we also get lots of advice about equipment, numbers, the rules of beach-cricket, how to identify different sorts of cloud, rockpools - in fact anything that Alice finds interesting and wants to tell us about.
The best way to approach this book is to start at the beginning and read it through as though it were a journal or diary. It is great fun and you also get to know what's there. You may find that some of what she writes about you know already or you don't immediately think will apply to any party you might give. But, so what! It will amuse you, inform you and will spark off lots of ideas.
So, the recipes: - among others there are:
* Summer barbecued roast of lamb
* Brown butter dabs
* Olive pressers' soup
* home made pastrami
* Toasted couscous
It's an eclectic mixture embracing ideas from all over the world.
I love it!
