Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This product is perfect for what it does. I needed it to extract audio from my Wii U as I use a PC monitor with no speakers and it does just that. Since I struggled to find any solution to my problem I am saying this: Any Wii U owners in the same situation as I am, this works flawlessly.

Just wondering how you power the box, can you plug the USB into the WiiU or did you power it by another means?

It has a mains power supply however the plug is American so an adapter is required. It works a treat though and mine is still working no problem.

Exactly why I am going to get one of these, silly Nintendo leaving an optical connection out from the console it is 2013/4 after all.

Not quite perfect if you're expecting it to extract a 5.1 audio signal from your Wii U, as I was. The Wii U outputs a linear PCM audio signal, not Dolby Digital or DTS; even an optical cable doesn't have the bandwidth to carry such a signal, so what's pumped down it is still just stereo.
It's true this does exactly what it says, and if the Wii U output DTS or DD it would be perfect; however, if you have an AV amp without HDMI inputs and you think this will allow you to extract true 5.1 surround-sound from your Wii U you'll be disappointed.

Wii-u outputs LPCM 2.0/5.1, can I use this item to output 5.1 on 6CH analog output (no optical)?
