This review is from: FT Guide to Pensions and Wealth in Retirement (Financial Times Series) (Paperback)
In the maze of the British pension system, this book is a life (or better, wealth) saver. It makes pension an easy understandable subject: not a small effort from the author, whose clarity is exemplar. The book is for people of all ages (yes, you can start a pension for your child right now). After a first overview of the pension system, the book explains how to assess where you are with your pension contributions and how to get an estimate of your retirement income. Once you have established your pension shortfall (which most people will have) compared to the income you would like on retirement, your are presented with all the options available to accumulate the right pension for your age, employment and family situation. All different pensions schemes are described in details with the most recent changes in the law. Numerous case studies greatly help in understanding the issues at hand.
I have just started a new job, and this book has helped me immensely in deciding what to do with my old pension plans and the new one offered by my new employer. I was able to discuss my pension options with the pension scheme guy of my new company on his same level.
Overall it was a reasonably quick read and very informative book.
Possibly the most important benefit of this book is that it will give you motivation to take action and be in control of your finances.
