I don't often buy books on Shotokan karate, but the statement; 'In Autumn 2013 Scott sent this book to his Sensei in Japan for their approval. They responded immediately declaring the book to be full of lies and misrepresentations of Japan and forbade him to publish it. He was suspended for a month and then affectively expelled in January 2014', did intrigued me! The book arrived quire quickly and I finished it within two days. The book is similar to Twigger's 'Angry White Pyjamas' (Aikido) and Law's 'The Pyjama Game' (Judo), but this time covering Karate. It really is a fascinating read, with covert and overt racism, bullying and unexpected kindness. Mr. Langley is brutally honest about himself and his decsent into OCD behaviours as a coping mechanism is as heartbreaking as it is attention grabbing. I would read the book and hours would flow by, like I said I finished it two days. I highly recommend this book for all students of the martial arts. Osu!
