An Excellent Blend of Mystery and Comedy,
This review is from: Chew Omnivore Edition Volume 1 (Hardcover)
Being an avid reader of graphic novels, more notably the works of Alan Moore, Ed Brubaker and early Garth Ennis I am always on the lookout for something new. Having trawled the freebies in the comix app I came across the first issue of Chew and was instantly intrigued by the premise. Immediately after reading the first issue I had to have more.
After tucking into this book I can safely say it is one of the most refreshing reads I have had recently - no wonder the first issue sold out numerous prints.
The storyline is utterly unique, based in its own version of the future (at least not one I've ever come across before). It has a very off the wall, at times dark, subtle sense of humour, whilst simultaneously holding an interesting storyline.
The characters are ones you can identify with and are multi-dimensional, the story is well written and the art a visual feast!
I have no idea what the future holds for Tony Chu and his associates, but I will most definitely be buying the next volume to find out and will also be brushing up on my Guillory/Layman!
