This review is from: The Spiritual Traveler - England, Scotland, Wales: The Guide to Sacred Sites and Pilgrim Routes in Britain (Paperback)I bought this because it says on the cover "Pilgrim routes". I would really like to have an authoritative text on pilgrim routes in Britain. Having got this I suspect it now would be a work of medieval scholarship not a modern book on pilgrimage or maybe they are genuinely lost.
I understand that for something like 500 years people made pilgrimage to a huge number of shrines in the UK often using almost standard routes. What I am interested in was where exactly these routes ran as many of them are not along modern roads. So getting a book on these, I hoped at least to get some of the major ones in Britain!
Not a chance, pilgrimage tradition is concentrated still on the shrines, the routes are modern ways linking a number of shrines, many of the shrines are modern. Simply if like me you are looking for historical pilgrimage routes, this book does not give them. As that is what seemed to set it out as different from other pilgrimage routes, I felt it did not live up to its cover.
If you want to explore religious diversity within the UK in a relatively short time, this book would be fine, but realise the routes given here are tour itineraries not routes that other pilgrims have followed.

Did you ever find a book that told you what you were looking for? Because that sounds as if it would be very interesting.

At the moment although I am still looking out for it, I have not found one. What it claimed to be was what made it exciting, because otherwise I suspect the only way is careful historical research.

Will you notify us if you find it? That would be helpful. I am currently conducting my own search for pilgrimage routes but, apart from the Camino, struggle to find the detail required.
