5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, especially when they sell for 4.99!, 19 Jan 2011
This review is from: Dettol No Touch Cucumber Splash Hand Wash System (250ml) (Personal Care)
I love these things, I now have 3, need another one but won't pay more than a fiver (on principal as this is what I have always paid previously)

I too was NOT impressed at the high cost of refills. I get really annoyed with manufacturers that make their products 'un-openable'. But not to be outdone, and after many attempts to get into the empty container, I hit upon the idea of standing it in boiling water for a few seconds which slightly softens the plastic and makes it easy peasy to get the lid off. I just fill up with my favourite handwash *thumbs nose at Dettol* hahaha

I bought this thinking it was no water hand wash system (as what's the point if you have to touch the tap first to wet hands, then get soap and lastly turn off the tap picking back up germs washed off in the first place) but after reading your comment it worked a treat. Then I filled mine with a no wash anti bac gel. Thanks for the Top Tip :)

Brilliant!!! Well done Julie! I contacted Dettol to ask if they were thinking of making it refillable - mostly cos the smell is SO awful and it makes my hands sore - but they were not in the least bit interested in doing it and had no plans to introduce a 'Sensitive' variation either. In fact the guy I spoke to was really shirty! So *double thumbs up nose* to Dettol ha ha ha! Thanks Julie - I will pass it on!

If you cut off the 2 plastic 'lumps' on the neck of the bottle the first time you remove the lid then it will simply unscrew for subsequent refills (videos on Youtube explain this better than I can here).

Thanks for this. I hadn't thought of looking on YouTube but there are lots of videos on the various ways of refilling. Thanks also to Julie for the OP.

a little tip for you when it comes to refill ..FIRST WHEN EMPTY DON'T THROW AWAY ..first remove in the normal way and wash out and dry .then GENTLY prize of the lid use butter knifes on both sides {be careful .then you will notice that to stop you from simply twisting the lid off they have put two lugs on either side !! once you have removed the lid ...well done ...file off the lugs .I used a metal file but if you don't have one a good nile fill or one of those micro pedi food devises will do then wash out the bits and DRY .the when dry fill up with any hand wash [we use whatever is a pound !! then replace the lid ..it will snap on ..then place back in device turn on and you have a new hand wash ..I have used the same one for about a year now ..my dettol unit had about had it and I am on the lookout for another device .the choice is mind blowing ! I am just reading the reviews ..but if you own a dettol device and it still works try my idea ..nothing lost because if you have done with the container you will have to buy another anyway ..so before you splash the cash try my idea
