A fascinating insight into a darker side of World War II,
This review is from: Pantheon (Hardcover)
I really enjoyed PANTHEON, and have read all of Sam Bourne's other thrillers. This was a more serious novel than the previous four, which are more in the Dan Brown mode, and it is fully historical. The research that has gone into it is amazing: I had never heard anything about the Yale evacuation of children from Britain's intellectual elite, and the philosophy behind the offer, and the ulterior motives for it are really chilling. I won't say more for fear of spoiling the plot, but it's really made me see what was going on behind the scenes in a different light. In fact, knowing this is all true, it really makes you think about everything you hear on the news or in parliament in a different light, since there are so many factors in play that we the public know absolutely nothing about. That's what a good conspiracy theory novel should do: make you look more closely at the world around you, and that's what PANTHEON did for me. Highly recommended.
