Best 'dance' album of the year hands down... although to call it just a 'dance' album is doing it a mighty injustice.
It is a perfect soundtrack to modern city life. Although classed as Dub-step, it's a mixture of different influences, from UK Garage and Breakbeats, to dub and drum and bass. It's generally dark, metallic in feel but cut through with shards of light; soulful, sweet vocals are hinted at on a number of tracks (but rarely at the forefront of the music) and a number of melodic instrumental tracks pay out to the patient listener who avoids the skip button and allows themself to be drawn in to the world that is being created. It's an ideal soundtrack to my city in the winter months, pounding the streets with neon lights breaking the darkness.
For die-hard dub-steppers, this may be too light and melodic at times. For ears expecting catchy hooks and Saturday-night danceability, this may be too dark ("Archangel" aside). For me, it's a top 10 album of 2007, without a doubt.
