This review is from: Doyle Brunson's Super System: A Course in Power Poker! (Paperback)
This book was good before the game changed. If your buying this to gain a basic introduction to poker as whole then it's going to do that for you. If however your looking to be competitive in any form of the game live or online you're going to get destroyed.
In the 70s hell even up to the last poker boom of the early naughties the information here would really help. Now however the game has evolved and players are much better educated than they ever have been and this impacts on the game. Whilst all of the information is relivent it's just not the game changer it once was you need to bring more to the table than is it this book to win. Some of the more common concepts of play especially in NL Holdem and Omaha in the modern game would have seldom even been experienced when this was written. Poker is dynamic game and is constantly evolving, it has its trends and if you play a fair bit you notice the changes week to week month to month. I remember when a 3 bet was rare AA,KK,QQ,JJ, god they were the days lol. Now 4 betting isn't uncommon even at lower stakes games.
If you're seriously looking to learn the game go elsewhere and find more specialized titles. Post hands on forums, keep records, study and analyse hands, talk and think about the game a lot and certainly don't expect to make a profit when learning the basics at all. GL and see you at the tables.
