Does the business,
This review is from: TP-LINK TL-SG1005D 5-Port Gigabit Unmanaged Desktop Switch (Personal Computers)
I brought this from Maplins as I needed it urgently and as a result paid £20 I thought on the basis of performance that that was value so £12 from Amazon is a give away to my mind.
As others have said this thing just works. 5 ports at the back and 6 lights to the front - one for power and the 5 remaining to indicate if a device is attached to the port and if there is traffic (they flash). There is a small power supply so you will need a mains plug nearby as the flex on the transformer is not that generous. The case is I think plastic and in use it makes no noise and remains cool. Set up was a cinch. I did not even turn the router to which I attached it off. Simply plug in connect one port to a router port and then you have an extra four ports to play with. I plugged in a NAS drive to use with Sonos and the feed to my Virgin Tivo box. Lights at the front illuminated and then blinked indicating traffic and I was good to go. Nice when a bit of tech works so effortlessly.
So if you need to add some ports to your router this is the device for you - cheap and effective. One last point is that there is no patch ethernet cable included in the box so you will need to spend another £1.50 or so on a 0.5 - 1 meter cat 5 cable. One should have been included to my mind but its a small niggle only.
Oh and it is smaller that the pictures would sugest.
