5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this over the vanilla release..., 22 Nov 2005
This review is from: Four Weddings and a Funeral [DVD] [1994] (DVD)
If you're wanting to buy 4 Weddings on DVD, my advice is buy this one. The picture has been remastered to a level which I didn't think was possible when viewing the old release - extremely impressive. Also the sound has been remastered in 5.1, which although doesn't exploit the rear speakers a lot is a DEFINITE improvement over the vanilla.
The extras, too, are impressive. You get an interesting group commentary by director Newell, Producer Kenworthy and writer Curtis. Also included are; 2 documentaries, TV promotions, good deleted scenes etc. There's also the short featurette which appeared on the original DVD - so you're not missing out by upgrading.
Because DVDs can be bought so cheaply nowadays, my advice is to spend the extra pound or two and buy this - it's worth a thousand more than the old release.

Hi

your review shows up on two versions...so I'm not sure which version you are recommending?
Could you please give details of the studio and anything else that might help.
Thanks Peter

Hello Peter Andronas.
Same problem as you. Today I recieved my copy of "Four weddings and a funeral". When I enter the barcode: 5050700022186 on amazon this dvd comes up: Special copy. But the disc says nothing about being remastered. So I'd wish rewievers and also sellers would include the barcode so as to know what they're talking about.

This review seems to be on the incorrect film as this version is to put it in one word awful, 1.33 picture cropping off much of the original screen which was shot on the 1.88 ratio, the sound is only 1.5 not dts, and the picture is grainy. Do I have the incorrect film cause this import is rubbish. everyone wait for the region 2 version without the cropping of picture you have been warned

Spot on review. I owned the original vanilla release and this version completely knocks it out of the water, not just for the extras, but the picture quality which is superb. For a while Amazon listed this as a Special Edition, which it isn't (they've sinced changed the artwork to reflect this). Despite the better picture quality, it doesn't make any mention of it being remastered.
