My 7 year old son couldn't wait to get this game. He's been asking for one for months since the first time he saw them in the shop. It's an original idea. Mix every child's favourite LEGO with boardgames. Minotaurs is fun because it promotes discussion about ancient mythology (one of my favourite topics). Construction is quite simple. Everything comes in a reusable sturdy box with Lego's familiar easy to follow, colour instruction booklet. We followed the instructions and assembled the "game" as a team. Even the 4 year old had a go at putting some Lego together. It was quite good fun but different to building normal Lego stuff. The box comes with a card guide for making up the maze that's in the box. The kids played one game before changing the layout but I guess that's the whole idea. We were a little disappointed that the "people" who come with this game are tiny. On the box they look like normal sized Lego figures but they are less than half the size. If you wanted to, you could use any Lego figures with the game too. The instructions for the gameplay are similar to Ludo. Roll the dice, move three spaces, first one to reach the middle wins etc. But my kids soon made up their own rules. The game comes with an innovative changeable dice (oddly deliberately missing numbers 1 and 2 though). You can add coloured squares too for different gameplay eg roll a "green" and you can jump a fence etc. It's a great concept and I take my hat off to whoever came up with this idea at Lego. But please bare in mind that you don't really get much Lego in the box. It's nothing you couldn't make yourself using your own green base board and Lego but it's nice it all comes together in this box. Once the kids starts to separate pieces from it and all the bits get lost in the giant big box of Lego in their bedroom I can see the novelty wearing off. But it certainly has kept them entertained for several hours and will make a great present for any young or old Lego fans out there.
