This review is from: Yoga for People Who Can't Be Bothered to Do It (Kindle Edition)
On the front cover in bold lettering, directly in centre page it categorically declares that the book you have just picked up is "Screamingly Funny by Maggie O'Farrell" whoever the nuts she is because she is nuts.
I'm only about 1 third and a bit of the way in but thought it very important to lay this out now because every page I turn I'm expecting to start screaming with laughter thanks to Maggie O'Farrell !!!
Look, the book is a really good read.
Geoff Dyer is a great writer, BUT he's not a screamingly funny writer, he just makes very witty observations on his travels and being extremely well travelled myself I can relate to him, but that is how he should of been marketed, not with this screamingly funny tosh on the front cover.
In fact, you know what I'm gonna do? I'm gonna write to the publisher, ask who Maggie O'Farrell is exactly, then ask why the book was listed like that because it's wholly inaccurate?
Geoff Dyer is a damn good writer and I believe in my heart that Maggie O'Farrell has without doubt ruined the book for me so far. So i want the publisher to contact her, with my contact details so she can email me, telling me which page is the screamingly funny page because then I can go read it, have a scream, then go back to where I was and finally start reading a book about a fella who's extremely well travelled and very witty getting into situations he's nothing to do with, but at least Geoff Dyer and myself will be free of Mrs Screamingly Funny O'Farrell.
Nice book Geoff, but bloody awful critic statement I believe is putting people off buying it.
I've actually bought 4 hard copies and 2 Kindle copies for friends and every single one of them said about that womans statement and how they wouldn't of bought your book because of that statement, but, and I'm being absolutely honest with you, my friends are all enjoying your book, just not finding it hysterical or screaming.
Maggie O'Farrell and your publisher have really created a missed event for you my friend.
If you're an Amazon customer and just read my review seriously either buy this book or download it to your Kindles and I promise you, you will enjoy it. Geoff Dyer is a hell of a fine scroller and he's worth the couple of quid you'll be parting with for this book.
Enjoy my friends, and never ever take any notice of Maggie O'Farrell's comments about anything, that lady is wrong!
