I have been watching London Grammar for a while now and have listened to and loved many excerpts/snippets of songs from them and finally decided to take the plunge and purchase the whole album.
I was not disappointed...
Hannah's voice contains so much emotion that you feel that you are in the room with her, sharing all the feelings that the songs evoke. It's like being there for and listening to a friend pouring out their heart to you and nothing is spared. You just want to reach out and hug her and say that everything will be all right. Every emotion that has to be let out, is. The music is minimalist, but it's a perfect accompaniment to the lyrics and Hannah's vocals. I've listened to the remixes as well and frankly, they don't add anything to the songs and in some ways detract from the message and the emotion. The songs don't need to be tampered with, they stand alone perfectly well.
Comparisons have been made to Florence and Judie Tzuke and I can see that there is some merit in likening London Grammar to them, Florence for the vocal style and Judie for the vocal style and music, but there is more raw emotion in these songs. If I was going to compare any one song to this album it would be Judie Tzuke's "Stay with me till dawn", but there the comparison ends. This album stands apart and is now on my phone to take with me whilst travelling.
