Simple, but effective,
This review is from: Nintendo Wii U GamePad Cradle and Stand (Nintendo Wii U) (Accessory)
If you went ahead and bought the Wii U 'Basic Pack', then the chances are that your wallet actually had some common sense. Afterall, I would suggest that if you combined each of the Deluxe Pack's accessories/benefits without paying their full RRP's, then you would actually be saving money with the Basic Pack.
The Game Pad Cradle and Stand are far from an essential purchase, but they are typically included with the Deluxe Pack to bolster is 'value'. As a standalone purchase however, Basic Pack owners may want to consider the benefits of this product if they find it at a fair price. In fact, I found it so cheap on the highstreet that it would have been silly to leave it in store. That's the benefit of the Wii U's (un)popularity...
What you find in the box are two objects - a cradle and stand. The purpose of each is that one charges the Game Pad as soon is it rests on the mount, and the other... well, rests the Game Pad.
In truth, the pack is flawed as the stand has little or no purpose. If your Game Pad doesn't need charging, then all you do is switch the plug off from the wall. Problem solved! The stand is therefore an elegant but unnecessary addition to this product. A more suitable way to design the cradle would be to simply have a switch of button that activates and deactivates charging.
Set-up itself is very simple, you just plug your existing Game Pad charging cable into the back of the cradle. The Game Pad then sits on it via a couple of bumpers, granting it a non-click effect when you place it on or take it off.
The cradle is a nice accessory as it actually gives your Game Pad a place to live, but there are other solutions at your disposal of course.
