A pretty good game, but not exactly epic,

With all the 3D power available on today's PCs, it's not surprising that the stragegy game developers decided to use some of it and switch from the traditional 2D top down view. So now, Warcraft III is 3D, but to be honest, most of the time you wouldn't really notice it. The view stays pretty much fixed; there is a limited ability to zoom in, but you are unlikely to use it much. You can't swing the camera around to see a different angle, and you can't zoom right out to get a wide angle view. Even if you could though, the game limits you to around 40 units, so the view is going to be less than epic.
So what remains is a pretty traditional RTS game with a decent story line, but rather limited horizons (literally!). The fact that you have fewer units to control than many games does make it easier to handle all of the micro-management that is still necessary, but even so, melees still tend to end up as a bit of a mess.
There are 'Hero' units that add a little bit to the game (well, you tend to look after then more), but also make it feel a bit like a cross between a role playing game and an RTS.
A worthwhile game, but if you like things on a grand scale, this isn't for you.
