This review is from: The Greatest Show on Earth: The Evidence for Evolution (Paperback)After the high-profile attack on Creationism that was "The God Delusion", Richard Dawkins turns back to science, and manages 99% of the time to stick to the facts and produce a science book which is NOT "The God Delusion 2".
And what a good science book it is- putting forth information about evolution, how it was discovered, how it's been considered through the ages, and more than anything else some fascinating examples of how evolution has produced such a weird and wonderful world, with a massively broad range of examples and some very nice photos to boot.
I found it pitched at just the right level, that it is both understandable in layman's terms, yet it integrates and explains quite clearly some concepts that I would call very complex.
Dawkins can't resist a handful- and it really is only a handful- of digs at people who so adamantly believe in things like young Earth theory (now that really IS 'only a theory'), which may stir negative feelings from the most resolutely religious who are buying or reviewing this book with hate in their minds. Looking at the range of other reviews, it's clear that apart from the predictable reaction from the religious right, who would give negative reviews to whatever Dawkins writes next even if it were "what I did on my holidays", this is otherwise a very popular and well-received book- and rightly so.
