Great Series Terrible Release,
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Hannibal - Season 1 [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
There is no doubting the quality of this series, it was compulsive viewing and without the adverts you can see the quality of the storytelling, each episode is a tight well made package.
The Blu Ray release however is a let down, none of the extras from the US edition make it onto these discs, we are left with two five minute TV spots which left me disappointed as I was looking forward to commentary tracks and behind the scenes features.

Do you have the US edition?

I've been toying with getting the region 1 DVD but the US Blu Ray is locked to region A so I've not got it.
But the extras are listed as:
Aperitif - Audio Commentary with Bryan Fuller, David Slade and Hugh Dancy. This is nicely conversational but also quite informative, especially with regard to some of the filming techniques. Slade and Dancy are quite dryly humorous here (Slade compliments one of the "dead" people in the episode by saying she was one of the best corpses he's ever worked with.
Pilot Episode Storyboards (1080p)
Hannibal Reborn (1080p; 11:12) is a rather interesting piece about the development of the series, including interviews with Martha De Laurentiis, the Executive Producer.
A Taste for Killing (1080p; 14:46) is a kind of funny piece about the cannibalistic subtext of the character.
Gag Reel (1080p; 4:56) is an infelicitously placed supplement, coming after the one above.
Savoreux - Audio Commentary with Bryan Fuller, David Slade and Hugh Dancy. This is in much the same vein (sorry) as the first commentary, nicely balanced between kind of geeky technical aspects and more anecdotal reminiscences.
A Symphony for the Slaughter (1080p; 11:32) focuses on Brian Reitzell, the series' composer.
The FX of Murder (1080p; 14:23) looks at the series' design elements and special effects.
Will and Alana - Deleted Scene (1080p; 3:00)
Note: Though they're not officially listed as supplements, this three disc set also includes one episode that never aired as well as "Producer's Cut" versions of five others.

Thank you so much! Yes, I can get the region edition but my dilema is it would have to be the DVD edition. I have a multi region DVD player but my Bluray is locked to region 2. So, do I get the inferior UK Blu-ray or the superior US DVD?

I've been hanging on getting the R1 DVD version too, it's currently less than £10 on Amazon.com so I think I'll take the plunge and get it now. The RB Blu Ray is very good image quality wise and I think I'd have got it regardless because of that!!
Currently Season 2's Blu Ray pre-order is listed as region free on here, I hope to god that's correct and it's the same release worldwide. Also I've not checked YouTube to see if the extras from the US edition are on there......

The RB blu-ray? You mean region 2?

Sorry all these different region codes get a bit confusing: the UK region for Blu Ray is region B and the US region for Blu Ray is A.
I've got the region B Blu Ray and I'm thinking of getting the region 1 DVD for the extras.

I understand now, thank you. Yes, it is tempting just to get both! Do you know if the UK blu-ray is uncut? I the US editions are.
