Why Dark souls lived up to my expectations:,
This review is from: Dark Souls - Limited Edition (PS3) (Video Game)
When I first heard a they were releasing a new game, I was hoping for something that fitted the bill for 'Demon's Souls 2'. That being said, this is a lot different from Demon's Souls.
For starters, you can't just run in like a hero and destroy everything (and that was already hard enough in DS.) Enemies will take out huge chunks of your health, and there are tricks and traps everywhere.
That being said, although it's not a game for everyone, don't let the difficulty put you off, I die a lot on it and I still can't get enough. They've polished a few things up from Demon's souls, and they've implemented a lot more room for customisation, for instance, pyromancy has been added as a branch of magic, and can be used by a wider range of builds than magic or miracles can, so you can have, let's say a big, butch warrior and still have him use pyromancy for some magic. Like I said, there's a lot of room for customisation.
Problems? The frame rate drops a lot in some places but I believe they're releasing a patch for this soon. The multiplayer system is a little clunky so it's harder to find players to/for help.
That's about it then. Definitely worth it if you liked Demon's souls or if you're just up for a challenge.
