Big panty planet gone bad! Like this film...,
This review is from: Elysium [DVD] (DVD)
Really this film is pants.
Idea is pretty good - overcrowded Earth, elite escape to live in space.
But... the real point, surely, is the over crowded and polluted Earth. That's where we headed folks. If you think science will save us - it might save some - but it won't save the land, animals, plants, oceans (but that's okay - we can always watch old reruns of Nature Documentary X and eat Soylent (Green anyone?)).
** Spoiler **
Elysium presumably represents a tiny proportion of the inhabitants of Earth - with a focus of resources targeted at it. So why is the main thrust of the movie aimed at making all inhabitants of Earth citizens of Elysium? What is the point of that? Fixing the Earth should be the point - and the roiling mass of humanity living in endless shanty town shacks does not suggest much in the way of sustainability or a great future. Oops - I'm taking the whole thing too seriously.
Weirdly I actually quite liked Jodie Foster's performance.
