3.0 out of 5 stars Decent game, but disappointed overall, 4 Dec 2013

This review is from: Batman: Arkham Origins (PC DVD) (DVD-ROM)
I've been a fan of the Batman games since the start, and felt Arkham City was an improvement on Arkham Asylum. You may therefore assume this would be a further improvement from Arkham City. Alas, you'd be wrong.

Having glanced over other reviews, much more detail would only be repetition, however I fully support those who have mentioned, aside from the annoyance of bugs, that it just doesn't seem to stack up against Arkham City.

Yes, there is new gear, and a large progressive upgrade system. Storyline is fairly absorbing, with plenty of characters thrown into the mix, and the enhanced detective mode plays a large part as the story unfolds. One of my favourite additions is using the Batwing to get around the massive map, which saves a huge amount of time getting from one mission to the other, and there are plenty of side missions to help build up your XP.

It just doesn't seem as smooth, nor quite as challenging, and somehow feels lifeless compared to its predecessors. I can't really put my finger on why, it's just the feeling you get whilst playing. I enjoyed Arkham City much more.

If you enjoyed the series so far, then you will enjoy this, however I would probably wait until the price inevitably drops to make it more worth while. By then it's more likely all the bugs would be ironed out with the latest patch.

It was made by a different developer to the previous games (Warner Bros. Montreal made it, rather than Rocksteady). This would explain why it feels different.

yes I agree. I too am a batman fan and I find origins harder than the others, keep dying and a bit unfair as it is harder. the gadgets in this one are rubbish compared to city. city will always be my favourite too as it is the best one.. I hope arkham knight lives up to city
