Why has this never been done before?,
This review is from: Ted - Extended Edition (DVD + Digital Copy + UV Copy) (DVD)I know there are other films, such as Toy Story and Small Soldiers, but they are completely different films. It's such a basic topic for a film, that works so well, and it amazes me no body has ever done it before!
Ted is about a lonely 8 year old (John), who is an outcast and has no friends. One Christmas, he is given a teddy bear by his parents, whom he names teddy (generic name, i know, but in reality, it's what most 8 year old's call a teddy bear). He then wishes for his teddy to come to life, and his wish is granted! The film then moves onto John and Ted grown up. They both live together still, but John has a girlfriend. The story then is basically "it's me, or the Teddy". Well, it's more than that, but I don't want to ruin anything.
I really found this film funny. There are some hilarious scenes and dialogue, and the films "villains" are simply hilarious (a dad and his son who are obsessed with Ted). The dad reminds me of Napoleon Dynamite's older brother, and the son the fat kid from Bad Santa. Ted should appeal to anyone who likes family guy, the humor is very similar to it, crude in places, but it can be quite dry and witty. Seth Macfarlane, the creator of family guy, voices Ted, and at times he sounds exactly like Peter Griffin, which is actually joked about.
The cast is good, Mark Wahlberg is excellent as the lead role, Seth Macfarlane is a great voice actor for Ted (really, nobody else would of worked) and the girlfriend (Mia Kunis) isn't too bad either.
My verdict is that this is a very funny film, you don't have to be a fan of family guy to enjoy, but the film is in very similar taste. The jokes are great, the scenes are great, it's just a really great, funny film. One side not i'd like to add, before i watched it, i heard it was extremely rude, and i'd like to say, it really isn't that vulgar. Sure, it's a bit crude, but it isn't over the top to the point of cringing, or where it is hard to watch!
