Salfords finest at their best,
This review is from: Live [Us Import] (Audio CD)This live album was recorded at Elland Road in 1991 when the Happy Mondays were at the apex of their career. They play 13 songs and all their best tunes are here - except 24 Hour Party People, Lazyitis and Mad Cyril. The band is on top form and many of the songs here sound better and funkier than the original recordings. W.F.L lasts for 12 minutes and is stunning to say the least.
The sound quality is excellent, each individual instrument can be heard clearly. My only gripe with this CD is that the audience can hardly be heard. Personally, when I listen to a live album I like to imagine what it must've been like to actually be there. I think not being able to hear the crowd cheering and singing along takes away a lot of the atmosphere.
Also, this being an audio recording, we don't get to appreciate Bez's contribution at a Mondays gig.
If you're a fan of the Happy Mondays and you were to buy this CD you wouldn't be disappointed. However, if you really want to experience what the Mondays were like back in the day, then I recommend you check out their 1990 show at Manchester G-Mex.
