5.0 out of 5 stars shockingly brilliant., 21 Jun. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Curry And Chips - The Complete Series [DVD] [1969] (DVD)
A big fan of Milligan and Sykes, I purchased this having read some pretty scathing reviews. I like to form my own opinions thanks! It is clearly a product of it's age. You'll laugh and cringe in equal measure. I know this couldn't have been made in these days of social awareness, but I'm very glad I bought it. speight has again made the 'white' component of the script the actual joke / point of ridicule. Milligan plays and irish pakistani in a way only he could.

People who have taken offence at this show need to read between the lines and look beyound the physical characters. Only then will they see the cleverness and value.

Reviewing DVD's and CD's is very difficult as different things appeal to different people, so as you have quite rightly said, you would like to form your own opinion, I agree and think it is important to remember that just because one person thinks something is good (or bad) does not mean that everyone else should think the same.

Political correctness etc has destroyed comedy in this country, classics like this and several other notable others from the past may never be equalled.

So please, if someone is offended by something, use the off button, don't spoil it for the rest of us!

Political correctness is the new National Socialism.
