The Deptford Underground,
This review is from: Gold (Audio CD)
Squeeze must be one of the few major bands of the 80s never to have made any cover versions or being given the Tribute treatment. It would therefore be intersting to see a CD called The Roots of Squeeze but you can assume that the Beatles would be somewhere. In fact their buit in writers Difford & Tilbrook were at one time called the new Lennon & McCartney an unfortunate name which backfired against them as they never called themselves that.If any comparisons should be made then Ray Davies is closer
Few if any Squeeze songs have been covered yet many deserved to be.
Stop 100 people in the street and you would find few who could name even one Squeeze song
Yet everyone has heard of the most famous ex Squeeze-Jools Holland-whose band has at least one ex member
But it must be said that the songs of Squeeze are good enough without cover versions.
Only the Family Cat is up to this standard
