If your looking to get into Joy Division, a band which had far reaching implications for the world of rock, this probably isnt the place to start. Your better off getting the 2 studio albums "Unknown pleasures" & "Closer". Once your hooked on those this is the next place to go. Alot of the songs here are older (some from the days when the band were called "Warsaw" I think) and arnt upto the standard of the studio albums proper. However, this album must not be written off because it contains some of Joy Divisions finest work - "Dead Souls" is a classic (latter covered by NIN on the Crow soundtrack), "Novelty" & "Love will tear us apart" are great, and "Transmission" is probably the most darkly intense recording they recorded - and that really is saying something. it builds into a kind of frenzy at the end, crashing guitars and Ian Curtis's sepulcral tones.. The band really seem possesed. Its worth the asking price, because the good songs on this record are awesome.
