Not only is this book informative and easy to digest, the writing style is so light and informal you forget that you are learning tried and tested secrets that would ordinarily take years of study to know.
I've been a professional artist/designer/cartoonist for nearly 20 years and I'm not too proud to say that I immediately learnt new things reading this book.
Quite simply, it is the best "How to draw comics" book since How to Draw Comics the "Marvel" Way. For a start it is actually created by a seasoned pro, who is well thought of in the industry. He isn't some hack artist who was approached by a publisher to chuck out another "How to draw" book.
All too often in other titles you feel like you're learning from someone who didn't quite cut the mustard and it shows in their accompanying artwork. Not so in this title. It is extremely well illustrated with fantastic examples of how to approach different comic book subjects and also how not to draw them along with examples of how your drawing might be going wrong.
I would also recommend this book to those who wouldn't consider comics, comic books or graphic novels as "their sort of thing". From budding caricaturists to seasoned concept artists this title is guaranteed to have at least one gem of knowledge that will make you slap your head with a "well...why didn't I know that?" moment.
I almost feel cheated that this book didn't come out when I was young enough for it to have a serious impact on the trajectory of my career. Here's to the next 30 odd years, being a little bit wiser and trying to stay ahead of the curve of the young blood that will no doubt be positively influenced by this terrific book.
Now, if you could just ignore my gushing review and not buy this book, it would be appreciated. I can do without the competition.
