Beyond the short list,
This review is from: Nothing But The Best [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This film is in the finest tradition of British wit, humour, intelligence and atmosphere. The acting is superb, the plot is rich, the direction is terrific. I simply cannot understand why it seems to have disappeared from the scene. Could it be that it is too good? Perhaps it is too good? But how do you get *too* entertaining?
Anyway, in case there is anyone out there who accidentally reads this and has not seen the film, *get* it! And see it repeatedly; you are guaranteed to miss bits the first time round, but it is so much fun that you will not find it to be an imposition to see it again.

Neil Saunders says:
I absolutely agree. It is a disgrace that this extraordinary film, with compelling performances from Alan Bates and Denholm Elliott (and strong support, not least from Millicent Martin), is not yet available on a properly remastered DVD, complete with extras. It is a brilliant snapshot of its time, somewhere between the tail-end of the Satire Boom and the start of the Swinging Sixties. This is "Room At The Top" replayed as black comedy!

I saw this film in the early 60's and it is an icon far better in some respects than the'Italian Job' I cannot get a copy either on DVD or a VHS

I would like to add my vote for a DVD release. I saw this on TV years ago and I've wanted to see it again ever since.

I saw this at the cinema when it was released originally and just loved it. I managed to see it another couple of times over the years and it still made an impression on me. It is criminal that such a great movie is not on DVD. Alan Bates and Denholm Elliott are superb in it.

Thanks for the heads up- I can only say that I recognised the title, but never saw the film--ever. From all the descriptions here, I thought they WERE--referring to ''Room at the Top'', which I never liked. Still, I think I'll risk a purchase. P G Croft.

Far better than RATT. I have it on DVDs now and it is as good as I recall.
