This review is from: The Prayer of the Night Shepherd (Merrily Watkins Mysteries Book 6) (Kindle Edition)
I've read most of the Merrily Watkins mysteries, this one was new to me. They're all real pageturners, it's difficult to stop reading and you feel a bit lost when the book ends. The mysteries are on two levels, or maybe three, criminal, spiritual and psychological. The characters and the places are described so well that you can feel you're living there with them, feeling and seeing what they feel and see. You get the tensions between paganism/superstition and Christianity, and the many underlying tensions in a small and closed society. The protagonists all have their weaknesses, but are willing to try to overcome them when it's needed for the sake of others. You learn new things, I didn't know that the Cof E has deliverance ministers, or how they do their job, very interesting. It's a good book, I recommend it.
