Unreliable, terrible support - but well done Amazon,

DO NOT RECOMMEND DEALING WITH OR BUYING GARMIN!
Bought a NUVI 2475 on the 21st of January from Amazon, six weeks later, on the 4th of March it went faulty (half the screen stopped working), Amazon's website sent me to Garmin as was outside the 30 day return. Garmin said it had to be sent back to them for repair and would take two weeks "because that is their policy" that I would have to pay to send it back "because that is their policy" that if I had bought it from them I could send it back at their cost but "unfortunately I bought it from Amazon and would have to pay". Obviously they really value their sales relationship with Amazon! I asked to speak to a manager or someone more senior - they refused "because that is their policy".
Their "policy" appears to be focused fully on themselves and customer care and support is a necessary evil to be avoided. If anyone wishes to verify or chase up on this the case reference is 1724768
Contrast this with the superb reaction of Amazon - I contacted them after above to complain, they rang me back within 30 seconds of requesting support, instantly offered a full refund or replacement item, I travel tomorrow to the US and needed the sat nav - so they have paid express shipment to get it here on time and have arranged collection of the faulty unit - now that is service - well done Amazon, gives me faith and confidence to deal with you again and again.
later addition - I managed to get an email address "email@example.com" to which to address complaints, - you guessed it, a black hole, no response.
