Excellent but flawed,

This review is from: Advanced Maths Essentials: Mechanics 1 for OCR (Paperback)
A beautifully illustrated, well-laid-out book, packed with questions to improve your skill in all aspects of the syllabus. Great for tutors and teachers, who can use the cd supplied to print out sheets of questions for homework. Also, all answers given at the back appear to be correct, but as someone else has remarked, only to 2 s.f. (they should be given to 3).
On the downside, many students would've benefitted from solutions rather than answers, to the past-paper exam questions given. Being mostly around 2001-3, they can not obtained from the OCR website.
My biggest niggle is that the questions just aren't hard enough for A* students; I've seen OCR, M1 past-papers with much tougher questions than these. A student could easily be lulled into a false sense of security, believing they don't need to revise more and end up failing to achieve their potential on the day. One section in particular (Kinematics: applications of differentiation and integration) is noticeably poor in this respect.
The difference between calculating distance travelled or displacement is not emphasised and the pitfall of not taking into account the possibility of the particle changing direction in the time interval specified, could spell disaster. In summary: excellent but flawed.
