est's last album.....,
This review is from: e.s.t. Leucocyte (Esbjorn Svensson Trio) (Audio CD)
In a perfect world this would have been a brilliant transitonal album for e.s.t.. After a few very succesful and brilliant albums they seemed to have reached a point where they couldn't refine or push their sound any further without repeating themselves. After Tuesday Wonderland I was curious what they would come up with next...Esbjorn Svensson himself seemed to be more and more interested in Bach or (and?) electronic sounds and talked about a solo-project.
In may the trio recorded this album....full of ideas from the Tuesday Wonderland-tour they decided to record some of the sounds they came up with on stage without the strucure (or constraints?) of compositions. Fans who have had the honour the visit the concerts of E.S.T. will recognize the lyrical, shocking and beautiful sounds and the brilliant interplay between Esbjorn, Dan Berglund (double bass) and Magnus Öström (drums).
It's not their "easiest" album (starters could try "Seven Days of Falling" or "Tuesday Wonderland" first), but it's a brilliant and moving album.
It's sad it's their last...
