5.0 out of 5 stars A FANTASTIC BOOK AND A MUST READ!, 22 Dec. 2012
This review is from: Galdir - A Slave's Tale (Roman Novel): Roman Empire Fiction (Roman Empire Series Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
Review 6******

I received a copy of this book from the author in return for an honest review.

OMG! Where do I start?! This is a fantastic story! I loved it!

Sextus is a slave in Rome, during the reign of Marcus Aurelius. He is a complex and fascinating character. He has an internal moral code that shapes his future. The Romans who own him think of him as furniture. However, I don't think I could EVER consider him furniture. He has a charismatic and magnetic personality that draws people towards him. However, he lives in a very violent age, and he has to learn to become someone he never thought he could be - a leader.

This book sucked me in and kept me hooked from the first page! I'm not really a big reader of historical fiction, but this book is one that I would gladly read again and again! I have always been fascinated by the stories of the Romans, the gladiators and their gods. But have never heard the other side of the story - from the slave's point of view. I knew about the slavery, and the constant wars that raged as Rome conquered countries, but only as dry history texts. This book brought it all to life and made me realise the impact that the Romans had on the world as a whole - not all of it good. This story is not a picnic, and had me riding on a rollercoaster of emotions! It is an epic tale of one man's journey to find out where he comes from, and where he fits in the world.

Fredrik Nath has written an amazing story that made me want to read more! This book has some really violent and upsetting scenes, so I do not recommend this book for young readers or those of a nervous disposition. However, I highly recommend this book as a MUST READ if you love historical fiction, thrillers, horror or action and adventure genres. - Lynn Worton
