1989 - a bumper year for disasters,

It's interesting that 20 years on, people are still writing about Lockerbie, an indicator that there's a feeling that the full truth about this complex tragedy is yet to be revealed.
1989 was also the year of the Hillsborough and Marchioness disasters. One thing that certainly links them is a profit over safety culture. With Lockerbie, there were warnings prior to the flight which were shared with diplomats and VIPs but not ordinary passengers. With Hillsborough there was the overcrowding of a football stadium. With the Marchioness there were blind eyes being turned to shipping companies who were cutting corners with staff and vessel refurbishments...
