1.0 out of 5 stars Pretentious clap trap, 4 Nov 2011
This review is from: The Tree of Life [DVD] (DVD)
I was really looking forward to this film. A huge Terrance Mallick fan and thought this film would be one of the year's highlights. Oh boy was i wrong! Director Terrence Mallick it seems has completely lost the plot here, with a dull, very pretentious arty film. The Tree Of Life is the equivelent of those ridiculous works of art that often win the Turner prize, you know the type, a messy bedroom or a lightswitch. The film does look very pretty, i'll give him that and has 2 decent performances from Sean Penn and Brad Pitt though both have done a lot better but there's practically no plot and the film's all over the place including a very bizzare half an hour sequence about the creation of the earth that looks stunning but is ultimately pointless, much like the rest of the film. A huge dissapointment. What was Mallick on when he came up with this movie??

You can't be that big a fan of Malick, you can't even spell his name correctly. I thought the polar opposite of you - this film is a majestic masterpiece, one for the ages. Best film I've seen in years.
