solar powered fish jacuzzi... (almost!),
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: PondKraft Solar Oxygenator
I bought this Solar Oxygenator from Bradshaws via Amazon to increase the air content of our pond in the summer months, in addition to an existing mains powered pond pump & filter.
The product arrived promptly from Bradshaws and is very simple to set up. The solar panel seems quite sturdy and comes with a ground spike to push into the soil. Then you just push the tubes onto the small blue air pump and the air-stone to go into the pond.
Of course the device won't work in shade or on a dull day, but on a bright, (but still cloudy) day a small stream of bubbles start to rise to the surface. Then as the panel is exposed to full sun, the stream of bubbles increase enough to disrupt the surface of the pond by at least 12 inches in diameter and sends surface bubbles several feet across the pond.
For best results and in this recent hot weather I've been turning the panel to catch more sun in the afternoon, so the output remains as high as possible throughout the day. It would good if solar powered products had some sort of mount (like a telescope) which automatically followed the sun, but I haven't seen any of those on the market yet....
I haven't had any problems with this pond aerator and it seems to have made a difference in the hot weather and the fish don't seem to mind it at all after the first day or so.
The only other thing I'd say, is that I weighted down the line to the air-stone with a stainless steel nut, (like a fishing line hook & weight) so that the air-stone remained at the bottom of the pond and disperses air through the entire water column. I've also checked the air-stone a couple of times and it hasn't needed cleaning as yet.
So, for free bubbles & happy fish this might be worth a try...
hope this helps!
