Great for planning your adventure!,
This review is from: The Big Trip (Lonely Planet General Reference) (Paperback)
I bought this book for planning my travels and I have found it very helpful. It provides a fantastic overview covering the basics of travelling (what you to organise before you go - flights, insurance, etc), as well as giving a good background to different continents & countries. Because it crams a lot of information into one, quite decently sized, book, it obviously doesn't go into the level of detail you might want if you were planning to spend a long time in one country. If this is the case, it might be a good idea to use this in addition to a country-specific guidebook.
I was interested in the section about working abroad, which has info about volunteering, freelancing, teaching, fruit picking, among many other kinds of work. The advice given is quite general, but this is understandable, given that working in any country would be a different experience. Nonetheless it has tonnes of info on visas, tax, and suggests lots of helpful websites for specific information. I found the job section very helpful indeed.
A very good book to supplement your own research! It also has plenty of great pictures to enjoy & inspire too!
