Would have been an decent Mills & Boon/Harlequin effort - not as steamy as it is made out to be.,

This book was touted as a saucy, spicy read "keep a man close for the steamy parts" etc. It wasn't. If the author had changed maybe two sentences that were unneccessarily and awkwardly explicit (the hero talking to his two friends about what happened to his lady, saying that "delicacy forbids" then explaining in detail), then this would have been a very good Mills & Boon grade historical romance, and would have got 5 stars.
Hyping it up as an Ellora's Cave type novel is shameless marketing. If you would like to read a pleasant romance, this is fine, apart from the brief, transparent and failed attempt to make it X-rated. I might give the other two books a go when they come out, but definitely won't be paying full price.
