I'm a fan of Crowshaw's work on Zero Punctuation so a low price and a feeling of generousness led me to buy this. I did have mixed- to low expectations of the book, seeing it as a bit of light reading that would eventually find itself into the local charity shop. I was pleasantly surprised.
After a slightly odd start where some of the language struck me as laboured, Mogworld finds its feet and delivers a story influenced by Tolkein, Pratchet and Robert Rankin without slavisly copying the authors. The writing style does vary from the acid tongue that Crowshaw employs in his writings for The Escapist but there's always a murmur of deep angered sarcasm that bubbles through occasionally to humourous effect.
The story is accessible to fantasy fans and gamers alike. Give it a go.
