5.0 out of 5 stars Superb read, 19 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Soldier Box: Why I Won't Return to the War on Terror (Paperback)
Half way through this book and just can't put it down. Full marks to Joe Glenton for having the guts to stand up and tell the full story from the inside of this filthy and disgusting war we are currently involved in Afghanistan. In my humble opinion Joe Glenton is a true "hero" for speaking out. Don't let all the negative reviews get to you, Joe. GOOD is on your side ! Well done ! PS. Anybody that takes on the British Army and lives to tell the tale has my FULL support !

Hope you enjoyed the soldier being beheaded in Woolwich...you obviously support the men who did it.

Dude. I am working class and will always support working class soldiers. However, as long as we are involved in these awful wars then these awful and shocking murders will continue

I am working class, spent time in the Infantry, actually seen the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, been wounded. And i can say without a doubt that joe probably has the same experience of combat as any civilian in the UK and yet you say he is 'telling the full story from the inside'??? He never even left KAF?! A base that might as well be in another country! i wish i could show you KAF....then take you out to my old stomping grounds of Sangin, Shin Kalay, Musa Qala, Nawa etc you would realise a patrol base IS where the war resides....when you are out there KAF is as distant, safe and luxurious as the UK itself!

You insult us all by calling this phony a 'hero' its not like he was ever going to be harmed either way?! we do not shoot deserters? he would not get flogged? the bloke went on the p*ss in australia, took a few drugs and schemed a way out of the army as MANY do...But the PTSD route....well....thats exactly why the guy is hated by the Army because he is a fraud, not because he spoke out...many people have spoke out and refused to go on tour, its a common thing and most of them end up on 'rear party' (guarding the garrison camp). If he had been in contact with the taliban, actually risking his life and been out and seen anything of Afghanistan then he would get my respect regardless if he hated the war but he has not. You even have people from his unit wondering what he was supposed to have saw between the ice cream and latte's??? He IS universally hated by the forces because he is a liar not because he got out of something (we have ALL done that! my last year in the army was blackened by an impending court martial that never happened in the end) If you REALLY supported the working class Soldiers you would distance yourself from this utter scumbag. I just feel sorry for all his supporters that have been duped by him. But liberals seem to be the most blinkered people i have ever met...and usually the least travelled and experienced. Seriously Bro...if you want to know about Afghanistan ask someone who saw the place for what it really is....not someone who lived on a huge US airbase that is completely sanitised of anything Afghan or local, that has a lower chance of becoming hurt than most inner cities in the UK.

He must be looking at the 5 Star gang and laughing all the way to the bank!
